About Glen Ayers
I describe my art as eclectic and diverse in all mediums and materials. It is two-dimensional, three-dimensional and even four-dimensional (that’s another story.) I tell people you have to see it to understand it. Others have described it as profound, whimsical, satirical, primitive, and perhaps most appropriately, as “outsider art.”
Mediums include collage, watercolor, oil and dimensional assemblies. My love of graphic design and writing weaves its way into many pieces. My art is not necessarily about entertainment, but about being human. My art mentors have instilled in me desire to be a visual inventor. It’s a reason you’ll see my art is made of rocks, pieces of advertising, trash treasures, junk mail, trinkets and whatever.
I’m inspired by anything and everything. I believe you can find beauty in the simplest of things.
I paint what I feel, not just what I see. If you study my art, perhaps you will see the child in yourself and then realize you are drawn into deep adult thinking.
My artistic journey started with a college instructor. He asked how many years I’d been painting. I said I just started. He did not believe me. I went to a different college, and two art other professors called me out and said I had a talent that I should pursue. And I did. Art was my major, and I received a degree in art education. Artists that inspire and inform my art are the impressionists, (Van Gogh in particular, although I still have my ear) and pioneers of abstract art.
Through a simple roughhewn early life, Marine combat, several learning institutions, a highly competitive sales job and as a special education teacher, I have tried to follow my own drum beat. I hope you hear the faint sound of the same drum I hear when you view my work. And, I hope when you view my art, it slaps you with an aesthetic slap. Over my 50 years of producing art, I have won a multitude of awards.
I have exhibited mainly in New Mexico and the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. I have collectors all over the world.
